Commonwealth Center for Change (C3) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization commited to facilitating a network of mutual support and collaboration that sustains and strengthens a dynamic creative community.
What For
Social mission organizations and artists are integral to the cultural and economic vibrancy of our unique community and continue their work despite challenges of isolation, lack of affordable space, dwindling resources and access to professional development and capacity building services.
We're here because we believe in the power of community connections to create meaningful and imaginative solutions to these challenges. By creating opportunities for collaboration and resource sharing (such as time, space & skills) we're helping to reveal our community's common wealth and engage people in building a network that uplifts and supports a dynamic creative community.
The who's who of C3
On staff we have our Co-Directors Jenny Ladd and Julia Handschuh. Their work is supported by our All Star Board of Directors and Advisory Board and the help of interns and volunteers who give their time, creativity and know-how; breathing life into C3 programs and events. C3 grew out of many conversations with community members who understand that we can create the tools and opportunities that help shape a strong resilient community. Our Story
In 2006, after years of living in the Valley and starting Haymarket Cafe with his brother Peter, David Simpson began to lay the foundation for C3. He envisioned a community center where people could connect, collaborate and create; a place where organizations, community members and artists could share resources, learn from each other and celebrate our community's common wealth.
In 2008 David fell in love, and in 2009 he left the Valley to live with his partner, Kathy Feltcher, and her son Santiago in Washington DC. During this transition Julia and Jenny have taken the helm as interim Co-Directors, continuing David's (and our community's) vision for a Common Wealth Center.
Our Vision
Our vision is to open the Common Wealth Center, a bricks-and-mortor home for our work.
